Basic Designated Officer Training Course (Altoona)

This two-day course is designed to prepare the designated infection control Officer to meet the requirements for this position as presented in the Ryan White Law, Part G, OSHA and NFPA 1581. State and Federal laws related to this position will also be presented. The Ryan White Law states that each EMS and law enforcement agency must have a designated officer to manage exposure issues for members of the department. Understanding this role and responsibilities is important to assist with department risk management and department member advocacy.

Establishing the role and responsibilities along with a job description are presented along with step by step program formulation to enable the course participant to return to their department and establish a working program.  A course book, and flash drive with supportive references will be included.  CAPCE credits and certificates will be presented.  Casual Attire. This course is approved for EMS continuing education hours through the PA Dept. of Health, Bureau of EMS (3 hrs CPC/13 hrs Other)

 

Day 1: 8:30 – 5:00                                                        

  • Review Laws & Regulations – State HIV Testing Law
  • Review Job Description & Program Set Up
  •  Review OSHA Regulations & Enforcement of CDC Guidelines
  • Clarify Exposure Control Plan Components
  • Establishing a TB Program
  • Day in the Life of a Designated Officer

Day 2: 8:30 - 5:00

  • Review the Formula for Infection
  • Review Needed Vaccines & Immunizations
  • Review of Airborne & Droplet Diseases & Follo Up for Exposure
  • Review Bloodborne Diseases and Follow up for Exposures

 

There is NO charge to attend this program. Seating is limited to 50.
